Dover Main Street

Dover Main Street encourages economic development within the context of historic preservation. The organization advocates a return to community self-reliance, empowerment, and the rebuilding of commercial districts based on its traditional assets including unique architecture, personal services, and local ownership.
Since its designation in 1999, Dover’s Main Street Community has built a volunteer force that has been recognized by more than 25 awards under the accreditation of the Main Street Community program in Concord, New Hampshire. The public and private sectors each play an important role in the Main Street Community to understand their strengths and weaknesses, forming an effective partnership.
Careful attention is given to every aspect of downtown through a process that takes time, leadership, and local capacity. Dover Main Street focuses on the revitalization of the downtown central business district in order to attract a healthy, economically viable community at-large.
