Wentworth Douglass Homecare HospiceWentworth-Douglass Homecare & Hospice can help provide access to homecare services through the continuum of care offered by Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Often, being able to receive treatment in the comfort and familiarity of one’s own home is the best medicine of all. Many traditional inpatient acute care services can be offered within the homecare setting. Patients/families are involved in the development and evaluation of their plan of care.

Wentworth-Douglass Homecare & Hospice has been providing homecare services to the greater Dover Community since 1909. Originally Dover District Nursing Association, the agency was formed by a group led by Mrs. Samuel Fischer. In the spring of 1985, Dover District Nursing, under the leadership of Nancy Boyle, combined with the Oyster River Home Health Association and changed its name to Squamscott Visiting Nurse Association. The name was revised again in 1993 to Squamscott Visiting Nurse & Hospice when the agency became a Medicare Certified Hospice. In 1994, Squamscott merged with Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in an effort to provide a more comprehensive range of services for patients in the community.

Nursing services

Our nurses provide a patient-centered focus with a high tech, high quality direction. As the assigned case managers for each patient, nurses work closely with patients, families, physicians, and other referral sources to develop the most beneficial and individualized care to meet quality outcomes and patient care goals.

Home Health Aides assist the patient with personal care and activities of daily living. They reinforce specific aspects of the patient’s rehabilitation program under the supervision of the nurse of therapist.

Homemakers offer assistance in keeping the home clean, safe, and orderly during times of illness or recuperation.

Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services are offered to enable patients to attain their highest level of independence.

Medical Social Workers are patient advocates who provide counseling to patients and their families. They also assist the patient with financial concerns including referral to state and community resources.

Hospice is a special kind of care for patients and their families who are experiencing a life-threatening illness and for whom curative treatment is no longer appropriate.

Early hospice involvement can help make the patients and their families who are experiencing a life-threatening illness and for whom curative treatment is no longer appropriate.

Early hospice involvement can help make the patient’s final days, weeks, and months more comfortable and satisfying. The hospice team includes a medical director and a group of professionals and volunteers who work in close cooperation with the patient’s primary physician. The interdisciplinary team approach is to provide quality care and comfort to terminally ill patients and their families.

Wentworth-Douglass Homecare & Hospice goes beyond caring for patients in their homes. We are committed to maintaining and providing services for a healthy community. Throughout the year we offer a variety of screenings, participate in special events, and work with the community to promote health and wellness programs.

Our goal is to assist each patient in achieving their highest level of independence.
