Curbside Recycling

Trash & recycling must be curbside by 7 AM. Remember to crush your plastic bottles and cans, it saves $$$. Write your name and address on your recycling bin. RINSE – RINSE – RINSE – Help prevent CONTAMINATION! QUESTIONS? Call 516-6073 or 516-6450

Aluminum, Tin & Steel Cans, Glass (food & beverage/jars & bottles), Plastic Bottles #1 through #7, Paper Juice & Milk Cartons, Mixed Paper (in brown paper bag or bundled and placed next to your recycling bin), Corrugated Cardboard (bundled or put in separate bin)

Spray cans, paint cans, ceramics, pyrex, light bulbs or window glass. Remove metal neck wraps from wine bottles. No plastic caps, no toys, no plastic bags. No paper ice cream cartons. Things to Remember

Cardboard must be broken down & bundled with rope or tape. Paper must be bundled or in a paper bag. Trash must be in a Dover trash bag. Recyclables must be in a bin no larger than 18 gallons. If there is cardboard or paper in with recyclables, none of these items will get picked up.

Freon Tags

Freon tags are used on items that contain Freon, such as a refrigerator, freezer, a/c, humidifier, dehumidifier. Freon tags may be purchased at the City Clerk’s Office or the Public Works Facility for $10.00 each. All of these items may be brought to the recycling center or you can call 516-6073 to be put on the curbside monthly metal pick up list.

The cost of collecting and disposing of trash in Dover is covered under the price of the bags and tags. Residents are responsible for their own trash, paying only for what they generate.

Recycling Drop-Off Center – Mast Road – Checks Only

Winter Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday – 8 AM to 4 PM

Seasonal Sunday Hours: Third Sunday in April through the third Sunday in June, third Sunday in September through the third Sunday in November, 8 AM to 4 PM.

Acceptable Items:
  • Aerosol cans (empty), air dried paint cans (lids off)
  • Aluminum, tin and steel cans, clean kitchen foil products
  • Antifreeze
  • Appliances (charge for items containing Freon)
  • Batteries: Automobile, and NiCd (rechargeable batteries)
  • Cell Phones
  • Computer monitors, CPUs, keyboards & all accessories (fee for some items)
  • Construction Debris - $.05 per pound, $5.00 minimum (NO mattresses or padded furniture) Checks only.
  • Corrugated (double-walled) cardboard and brown paper bags
  • Food waste – NO bones, meat, fish, dairy products, fatty foods, citrus foods, grease.
  • Glass, bottles, glassware, plates, (NO safety glass, auto glass, fish tanks)
  • Inkjet/Laser Toner Cartridges
  • Leaves, grass clippings, brush, clean wood (logs to 36”, untreated wood), stumps
  • Masonry debris, pottery, asphalt, concrete, ceramic floor tiles
  • Mercury containing devices; thermostats, thermometers
  • METAL: Used appliances and all other metal items. (Remove glass, plastic, wood or rubber parts)
  • Newspapers, paperboard cartons (cereal, pasta, shoe boxes) paper rolls, etc. magazines, phone books, catalogues, paper egg cartons and junk mail. NO milk or juice cartons. No tissues.
  • Office paper, computer paper, white/colored ledger, envelopes, carbonless paper.
  • Oil – Used motor, transmission, hydraulic, diesel & heating oil
  • Paint cans – latex & water based, empty and air dried
  • Paperboard cartons (cereal, pasta, shoeboxes, paper rolls, etc.)
  • Plastics #1 through #7 (size restrictions apply – no Styrofoam or plastic bags)
  • Power steering fluid
  • Propane Tanks (from gas grills) and propane cylinders (1 & 20 lb. ONLY)
  • Tires, inner tubes
  • TVs ($10.00) Checks only.
  • Wood (painted, stained, clean)
  • Pressure treated wood (treated as construction debris - .05 cents per pound)
  • 4’ Fluorescent Bulbs

NO Hazardous Wastes (lead & oil paints, solvents, pesticides or other chemicals) NO milk or juice cartons, NO furniture, NO microwaves, NO rubbish, NO driveway sealer, NO oil based paint buckets

Household Batteries: Any alkaline batteries, AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, 6V, are considered “regular trash” and must go in your Dover trash bag.

Recycling bins are available Monday through Friday from 8 AM – 4 PM at the Public Works Facility at 271 Mast Road as well as Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM and Wednesday’s 8 AM to 6 PM at the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 288 Central Avenue for $6 each.

Frequently Asked Questions?

When do I use an orange Bulky Item Tag?

To dispose of all non-metal items too large to fit in a Dover trash bag: furniture, mattress, toilets, microwaves, carpets, etc. As of July 1, 2007, TVs will no longer be picked up curbside with a bulky item tag. To dispose of a TV you will need to bring it to the recycling center during normal hours and it costs $10. Checks only please. Items are picked up on your regular trash day. Bulky Tags are $4.00 each.

What about old lumber, fencing, wallboard, plaster, building debris and carpets?

Affix a bulky item tag to bundles 3’-4’ long that weigh no more than 50 pounds and put out with your regular trash. Call 516-6073 for more information. How do I recycle papers curbside? All paper must be bundled or in a paper bag, do not use plastic bags, as they are trash.

Light Bulb Information

Small household bulbs should be wrapped in newspaper and placed in your trash bag. 4’ fluorescent bulbs are accepted at the Recycling Center.

Checks only please. Other fees may apply call 516-6073. Construction debris - .05 cents/lb, minimum charge of $5.00 for < 60lbs. Computer monitors, TVs - $10. Scanners, Printers, Laptops - $5. Recycling Bins - $6. Bulky Tags - $4.

Large Metal Collection

A refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, etc. or a large metal item is picked up at curbside starting the first Wednesday of the month. You must call 516-6073 prior to the date. Please bring small metal items (toaster ovens, etc.) to the Recycling Drop Off Center.

Leaves

If you missed the leaf collection leaves can be brought to the recycling center. Put your leaves in any type of large bag, bring them to the recycling center & dump the leaves out into the yard waste bin, the only catch is that you must take the bag back with you as that is considered trash.

Construction & Demo Debris Bin

New Policy: As of February 1, 2007, only clear trash bags with construction debris will be accepted in the C&D bin. Black trash bags will no longer be accepted. The construction & demo debris bin is available year round. Fees apply.
