Did you know?

Square dancing gives you an all over “great-to-be-alive” feeling by combining a healthy & challenging atmosphere with laughter! Square dancing has been around for many years and is here to stay. It is found in every state in the country as well as in all the Canadian provinces. In fact, it is in more than 50 countries over the world. There are more than 6 million dancers in the United States alone. Today’s square dancing is one of the world’s greatest social mixers. Whether you come solo or as a couple, you will meet and dance with many other people. You never know when you step onto the floor if the dancer on your left is a teacher, doctor, truck driver, cashier, banker, lawyer, homecare provider, serving our country, etc. Square dancers are the friendliest group of people you will ever meet.

Modern square dancing is taught in the English language throughout the world. No matter where you travel, you will be able to square dance.

It’s A Party

It brings people together for fun and exercise. The fun starts the first time you step onto the dance floor. It’s a great way to escape the worry and pressure of today’s busy world.

It’s a Challenge

A mental and physical challenge. It’s dancing, thinking and teamwork all set to modern rhythms in a fun filled atmosphere. Learning the basic steps is easy.

It’s a New Generation of Square Dancing

This is not the stuff you did in school. While it has its origin and roots in colonial America, and is as American as apple pie and ice cream socials, this is not your grand daddy’s square dancing.

Where are Dances Held?

Square dancers meet in recreation centers, community buildings, private halls, schools and churches. There are also State and National conventions held each year in different locations. There are square dance retreats and campgrounds for those who like to get away. You can even go on a square dancing cruise if you choose. There are many places to dance.

Is Square Dancing Expensive?

Square dancing is definitely an economical hobby. Most dancers spend around $5.00 to $6.00 for an evening of fun. There are not many activities you can do these days for less than that.

What do I Wear?

During lessons and club nights, dancers wear anything they choose. Most dancers wear the traditional square dance outfits for conventions, festivals, and special dances only. Today’s square dance clothing has changed. Some still prefer the traditional flared skirts others wear prairie length skirts or dresses. You won’t need to purchase square dance clothing right away and only if you choose to.

Square dancing is movement to music. It’s done in groups of eight, where singles and couples combine and there’s never a problem finding people to “square up”. It’s not a spectator sport. It’s an exercise of the mind and body put to music.

Join the Party and Learn how to Square Dance

Today’s Square Dance has new music. Maybe you remember the old barn dance style tunes. We now dance to more modern songs, anything from Oldies to Pop and Country. Modern square dancing consists of shuffling your feet around a square with 7 other dancers. There are several movements or calls that you will learn. Remember, if you can walk – you can square dance. No special skills are necessary.

Square Dancing is Friendship set to Music

Everyone is here for the same reason to have fun dancing to modern music and meet new friends!
