What is the McConnell Center Community Campus?

Our Center

The McConnell Center Community Campus project is a multi-million dollar rehabilitation of a former school facility into a multi-generational community center.

Along with the 1895 Carnegie Library, Dover City Hall, the Dover District Court and the St Thomas church, the McConnell Center Community Campus helps to define the cultural and governmental heart of Dover.

Ways to Give

Over the years, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital has been blessed with many friends who have generously provided funds that have sustained the mission of the Hospital. These gifts have come to the Hospital in many ways, either as outright gifts or through planned giving.

Outright Gifts – gifts of cash or check immediately go to work for the Hospital.

  • Annual Fund – gifts to the Annual Fund support the purchase of new or replacement medical equipment and expansion of programs and services.
  • Remembrance Gifts – There may be times throughout the year when you wish to pay tribute to others and conventional ways of expressing good wishes, thanks or sorrow seem inappropriate. A Remembrance Gift is a way you can honor a special person in your life. A tribute gift can be either a gift to honor a birthday, anniversary or graduation. A memorial gift expresses sympathy and support at the time of loss or on the anniversary of a loss.
  • Matching Gifts – many companies match charitable gifts made by employees, retirees and directors. These gifts are counted toward the individual’s total giving to the Foundation. Donors need to complete the paperwork from the company’s human resources department and send it to the Foundation.

Preserve the Past, Promote the Present and Facilitate the Future

Promotion

The Promotion Committee volunteers continued their tradition of Holiday events this past year with Christmas Readings and surprise Santa Visits at Café On The Corner and Harvey’s Bakery. A major change in philosophy was the strategy of placing Santa into the local businesses for special events, rather than staffing the Santa House downtown. This proved to be a successful change with well-attended events such as “Letters to Santa” at Leaps and Bounds, and “Cookie Decorating” with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Café Ciabatta. Our award-winning Dover Gift Certificate Program expanded to more than 80 businesses participating in the promotion, and record-breaking sales of more than $8,000.

Our focus over the year was to foster cooperative advertising and promotional opportunities with the downtown businesses. Special group meetings were held with the restaurants and tourism related businesses that developed several new initiatives. The Restaurants group produced a “Dining Around Dover” card that enabled patrons to receive a stamp when dining at downtown establishments. The cards were then entered into a free drawing for Dover Gift Certificates when they were completed. The Tourism Group used the cooperative approach to place the first ever Dover ads in the Amtrak Downeaster Schedule, promoting Dover attractions, lodging, dining, and retail. Volunteers also produced a very popular tear-off map that businesses and government could easily use to provide directions and information on the downtown area. The highlight of the year was the receipt of a $5,000 grant from the NH Office Of Travel and Tourism Joint Promotional Program Grant that enable us to form a partnership with local businesses, the Dover Chamber of Commerce, and the City to design, print, and professionally distribute 100,000 “Destination Dover” Brochures across New Hampshire and along our bordering states over the coming year. Designed to promote the image of Dover as a great place to work, shop, live, and play, the project had a total cost of $18,000.
